These little ones are definitely beautiful. And when they fly around the aviary they as so graceful. They thrive in small colonies or mixed flights. They are never aggressive in our aviary. Other names for these are Bicheno or Double Bar. I think Owl fits them better.
Habitat:
Native of Northern Australia.
Description:
Approx. 4 inches. Forehead and a band running from above the eyes down the sides of the head and across the throat is black. The back of the neck is brown with dark cross-barring. The wings are checkerboard pattern. The rump is black.
Food:
Mine love finch seed, . It is suggested that you try live food, various fruit, vegetables and sprouted seed. I offer these to them every day with no avail.
Breeding:
They lay 4 to 5 eggs. The young hatch after 12 days and should not be allowed to mate before they are 9 months old.
